12/3/2020

Although we had fewer paintings for our Miniature Masterpiece Show than previous years, the quality of the work sure has made up for it!  And due to Covid-19 and safety measures we were unable to do the People's Choice award this year. Instead, our recognition awards were judged by five of our eight owner artists, ending in a three way tie!  Congratulations to Debbie Littleton, Kay Lybrand and Paula Robertson. We also wanted to recognize Debanjana Bhattacharjee as her piece was a close second.    All work is now hanging and available for sale in the gallery, each piece is $150.  If you are interested in a piece you may want to act fast, we have already had several sell!  Thank you to all who participated!  Wishing you a happy and safe holiday season--we will miss seeing you all but hope you will stop in and see the show!

What a fun day spent with Brenda watching her manipulate a little piece of metal clay into an extraordinary piece of jewelry!

Brenda has been working with metal clay since 2004 and is certified in PMC Metal Clay, Prometheus Clays and Clay Revolution.  She has traveled from Florida to Arizona to study with some of the most renown metal clay artists is the US, UK and Russian---and we feel so privileged to have her work in our gallery! Her inspiration is driven by nature, and her favorite designs come from the intricate patterns and textures in nature, ie. such as found shells, mollusks, leaves, flowers and tree bark.  She often incorporates fine gemstones and 100% compressed cotton pearls with the hand fabricated bronze, copper or fine silver pendants and findings.  Brenda says that "silver metal clay is the perfect medium to create unique jewelry designs because of its versatility and malleable nature. The unlimited possibilities with this medium fascinates me and drives my creative process."

Make sure to stop in and see some of her latest creations in the gallery--a perfect gift for that special someone!

Artist Brenda Lawson joined us in the gallery last week to demonstrate her watercolor techniques and shared
some of her tricks of the trade. She has been painting 45 years and has accumulated a list of juried exhibitions, awards and shows that is quite impressive....a testament to the time she has spent with a brush in her hand!  After moving to Pawleys she opened her own studio---Pawleys Island Art Studio--and taught and hosted workshops for years.  To learn more about Brenda check out her bio and link to her website on our Artist's Page.  She also has a wall full of her watercolors in the gallery right now that are definitely worth driving to see!  A few pictures

What a treat it was to have artist Zan Thompson join us at the gallery last week.   From his art education to his career as a landscape architect, and now pursuing his art full time, it all trails back to the days of growing up with his artistic parents.  Zan is know for his watercolor paintings of boats and architecture and lately has delved into florals. He loves to paint  outdoors and taught us much about the best way to travel light with his easel and supplies.  Zan teaches in his hometown of Hickory, NC where he lives with his wife Peggy as well as does workshops.  He is currently working on setting up his own You Tube Channel for teaching --  can't wait to see it up and running. To learn more about Zan check out his biography a few clicks over on the Artist page of our website!  A few pictures from the day and his work in progress:

"Artist in the House--Kay Lybrand"

What fun it was to have Kay Lybrand in the gallery yesterday painting.  It's always fascinating to learn the process an artist goes through from their initial inspiration to the finished painting. Admiring Kay's beautiful work in the gallery comes with a whole new understanding when you see the small gouache studies she does later to be used as reference for her much larger oil paintings.  Having not only painted all her life, Kay also knows just about all there is to know about paper as she worked for Strathmore and Crane Paper Companies for many years.   From years of creating presentations of beautiful paper, she now creates her own journals for her studies right down to punching the holes in the paper and binding them.......and what a presentation it  makes of her gouache studies on Kraft paper.  Thanks to Kay for sharing her talents with us this week!  More about Kay...
