Send us an email to the gallery email -- islandartcoop@gmail.com --we can then forward you an application for entry. It's always fun to watch a painting in progress! We enjoyed having artist Carol Carstarphen--(and her dog Sir Albert for a short visit!)-- in the studio with us a few weeks ago finishing up her painting "Seagulls at Sunset"--oil on canvas, 24x30 gallery wrap. Carol lives in Belmont, NC and has a studio in McAdenville where she paints and teaches art weekly. She graduated from Queens College-now University- in Charlotte, NC with a double major in studio art and museum studies and a minor in biology as she had a strong interest in medical illustration. Not long after she graduated she attended UNCC and received her teaching certificate and has taught art in the public and private sectors throughout her life. She is rarely without her artist bag full of sketchbooks and watercolor paintings she has done through the years. They not only tell a story but are a testament to her love for art. Carol has been an artist with Island Art Gallery since 2014. We hope you will stop in and see her lastest work including "Seagulls at Sunset" and "Beach Walk"-oil on canvas 18x36 gallery wrap--both pictured above.
What an exciting evening the Holiday Open House was this year. We were so blown away by the incredible artwork submitted for the Miniature Masterpiece Show and wanted to share it. We also want to recognize Kay Rugh for winning the People's Choice award for her painting "Washed Ashore", pictured in the grouping below. Kay's painting of simple seashells in such a pleasing choice of color is so capitivating --congratulations Kay! We hope you will join us in supporting the Toys for Tots program by bringing a new unwrapped toy as well----we are accepting donations through December 12th.
Few words are needed to explain the subject matter of these two artist's incredible paintings. Masterfully depicting the countryside of South Carolina, Jane and Celia are recording on canvas the present day abundance of farmlife in the lowcountry. Certainly worth a visit to Island Art Gallery to see them before they are gone!
