What a terrific show this year! Thanks to all the artist who participated --your work came together beautifully! We also are so grateful to Jim Calk and Betsy Haven for taking the time to come in and judge the show for us. The criteria they use when judging shows includes: Composition and drawing skills, use of sensitive grays and color mixtures, strong center of interest and a painting that reads clearly at thirty feet. Contrast on values, color, line and balance of warm and cool color relationships as well as the interpretation of the theme "Reflection" were also considered. Congratulations to Rachel Jones for winning first place with her watercolor and gold leaf painting "The Chosen Ones". Rachel stated, "the imagery of nature is used to reflect human responses and emotions; the flowy creations are a product of design, storytelling and exploration." Second place went to Maura Kenny for her painting " Hummingbird Don't Fly Away!" Maura said that this painting was inspired by a photo she took of her daughter applying makeup before a dance performance. She added the hummingbords and stormy sea scene out of her imagination. Jim Nelson's pen and ink scratchboard called "Reflections of a Builder" took third place. In the image he has shown the juxtaposition of old delapitated buildings to new high rises and images from by gone days. We would like to also congratulate Foundry Glass, Meaghan and Mike Gann for their beautiful blown glass vase with three flowers called "Reduction" as well as "Splish, Splash", watercolor on paper by Nancy Guiry. We certainly hope you will come in and see our 2019 Spring Show. All submitted pieces are for sale and will be hanging until May 11th--all the artwork this year was truly phenomical and has made for a great show-look forward to seeing you soon!
