It is with heavy hearts that we say " goodbye for now" to our dear friend and fellow artist Nancy Van Buren. Nancy has been an artist with Island Art Gallery, her work gracing our walls for many years. She was also a member of the Georgetown and South Carolina watercolor societies, Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild, and Seacoast Artists Guild of South Carolina. Her passion for art and conveying a story was such a gift -- a true legacy in our book!
Nancy grew up in Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Moore College in Philadelphia and later received an MFA from Limestone College of SC. After raising her two daughter, she moved to South Carolina in 1977 as part of a long and successful career as a designer of children's wear. Upon her retirement in the early 1990's, Nancy moved to Pawleys Island and began to explore a new career in watercolors, studying and taking workshops with many well known instructors. Her work hangs in private collections from South Africa to Singapore. Her travels to all seven continents have greatly influenced her painting and her watercolor travel notebooks are a treasure to see.
You will be so missed Nancy---Rest in peace!
